Q: I was thinking about buying a sealed can and filling it up before I got to the track. Anyone want to share their thoughts about putting gas in the trunk? Anyone put containers in their SUVs or do you put them on the trailer some how?
A: I use 5-gallon “utility jugs” similar to this: Scribner 5 Gallon Utility Jug. That said, I put them in the bed of my truck or in the trailer because the seals on these units aren’t so great. I use different jugs for my lawn equipment and those seal better but most of those have a new-style spigot mechanism that makes them impossible to use on a car without a funnel. If you put any fuel jug in your car, make sure it’s well secured so that it doesn’t tip over. Also make sure that the car is well ventilated – in other words, OPEN WINDOWS even in the middle of winter. I’ve also put them in my SUV but wait till I am as close to the event as possible to fill/refill them.
